Shuffle Up & Deal....
Contributions by Mike Sexton to the growth of poker
are legendary. He has been poker's visionary and
pioneer for many years leading us into the poker
boom in both television and the Internet. The 2008
recipient of the prestigious "Patriot Award" from the
Paralyzed Veterans of America, the inside story of Mike
is revealed here for your enjoyment in several articles,
guest articles, and video clips.
There are literally millions of poker players who can
only dream of doing what Jennifer Harman has
accomplished in the poker world. To be sure, she is
the most successful lady poker player in the world in
high-stakes cash games. When the Bellagio opened
in 1997 about 11 years ago, Harman pulled
up a seat in Bobby's Room, where the average limit
played is $2,000 / 4,000 in a whole mix of games.
POKER'S ONLY BIG GAME LADY

It was about 30 years ago, when I remember being at
the Dunes Hotel, where the Bellagio sits today. Danny
Robison came over to me and said, "Tom, see that
guy over there that looks like a 15-year-old kid? That is
Stu Ungar from New York, and his people want me to
play him gin rummy. I've heard he is supposed to be
the best…. I've been up for two days playing poker, but
I don't think there is any way that kid can beat me in
gin rummy!"
THE WORLD'S BIGGEST GAMBLER THE TEN PART CHRONICLES
|
I was fortunate to be able to write the amazing story on Archie "The Greek" Karas in my column, Sexton's Corner. After interviewing him for over 60 hours, I began to realize just how unique and big his story really was, as Archie revealed details of his epic gambling story, that have never been written about. As a result, I decided to write his chronicles in a riveting 10-Part story, from the time he ran away from home at 15, to become, The Biggest Gambler In The World!

The day I interviewed Jennifer Harman in Bobby's
Room at the Bellagio, I glimpsed at her view point of
what a remarkable husband she has in Marco
Traniello. In a very reflective moment Jennifer said, "If I
had to write a letter to God about what I wanted in a
man, he would send me Marco. "After she said this, I
thought to myself, "This is my lucky day, as I'm
scheduled to meet him next over at the Palms Casino
for his interview." The two of them remain happily
married after eight years with two beautiful
19-month-old twin boys.
A movie should be made about the golf, poker, and
gambling exploits of Dewey Tomko. He has had an
amazing life so far, and is still going stronger than
ever! Let's go back in time between 1970 and 1975.
After graduating from Salem College in Salem, West
Virginia, Dewey taught kindergarten for those six years
at Hanes Elementary School in Hanes, Florida.
During this period, he began to play in bigger and
bigger poker games at night, finding himself winning
$5,000 to $10,000 on many occasions.

Johnny Chan may be one of the busiest superstars in
the poker world today. He was congenial on the phone
when I contacted him and suggested meeting at the
Bellagio VIP lounge for a 9:00 AM interview, as he
would be checking out. He would have about an hour
to sit down for the interview before he had to catch a
flight to LA. I've known Johnny for a number of years,
as we both came to Las Vegas about 30 years ago in
1978, and I have a deep sense of appreciation for all
he has accomplished in the poker world.
